Ricerca. Archeologia. Vero carro armato. Italia.

Hi, I hope this is the right way to post, I am too old for the technology!

Yes, I do believe there is a very good chance that there are wartime tanks hidden and have yet to be discovered. I have done some research which is not complete (4 years duration). I am convinced that there is 1 or 2 tanks in Rimini area. To encourage you I know that an Italian SMV 75 was found in Rimini town centre and a complete German 88mm gun with carriages where found very recently near San Marino.

I need to partner with some enthusiast who is motivated, has a car and is living near Rimini.

Maybe I am wrong, but if I am right...! I know some tanks were dismantled by locals and others taken away for scrap having spoken to old witness's. But there is a strong chance the allies where lazy sometimes and just buried them where they found them.

Regards

John

Welcome John! [SM=g8900]
I think you're right, there must be still something somewhere, but, maybe, not only buried tanks. You better check 'cause for sure there's some tank laying in a barn over there! [SM=g9327] I'm only joking! [SM=g27828]
Regards,

Benvenuto John
[SM=g9327] Sto scherzando! [SM=g27828]
Saluti,

Giorgio

I think that you say is possible on Appennini Mountains, where there are crispy hoods right now.
I'm from Milan, but on Zimmerit are many modellers of Rimini/San Marino area...

RAGAZZI,

I know it seems a story from some drunk in a bar, but yes Zimmerit an appeal to members in the Rimini area. If we don't look - we do not find. We all have wasted a lot of good times, (no regrets), doing miniatures, Airfix, Hasegawa Nitto etc. I was also guilty of this. But a real tank is better.

hi john,
and welcome here...

first of all, I apolgize for my english, that is... well, let see..

personally I'm greatly fascinated by this kind of research, I am just coming back from normandy, where I visited the site of grandcamp maisy... really incredible!

unfortunately I live far from rimini... I hope you'll find a partner in the game, and at least a tank!

the thing that I can do is this one: I'll sent a copy of your message to my friends whom live in the area or near, and keep waiting for some answer...

good luck, p.

Hi "P"

Thanks for post, sorry for my lack of Italian too. Your English is perfect though.

Yes Normandy has a great atmosphere still after all this time.

Ok we see if we have some response from "Zimmerit Command Post - Rimini".

Maybe they are shy!

A+

Hi Ralph,

welcome here.I tried some years ago to find a Tiger near Mantua (not so far from Rimini). I have heard about a tiger (probably a Panther A) abandoned by its crew out of fuel and pushed into the mud of the Po river.Rimini area is much frequented by the seekers of relics. For some time I am attending the area of Modena, and its hills I found interesting tracks. I can try to help you because I have friends in Rimini and I can ask them for help. Let me know if I can help you.

Hi Diego Nello,

great story, and worthy of more research!

We can see that from the preserved tanks in Italy, apart from a STUG or two all are allied, so the tanks left to find will mainly be German. Hatred of the Nazi/Fascist period will mean a lot will have been scrapped. We can see that the war is of very specialized interest historically compared to say the Medici period. Being diplomatic, most people wanted to delete it's memory from the history books.

But I am convinced by the evidence of my research that a lot where buried or encased in concrete where they died. Any serious person from the Rimini/San Marino area is of interest to me. I will be returning to the area later this summer for more field work. I have strong evidence of 2 separate sites with some documentation.

I just want to make progress and complete the file. If it's there we find it, if not we close the case and look else where.

The collecting of witness accounts before the older generation are gone is important, as well as getting the permission to search on the land. The final obstacle is the state/government depending on the laws and where it is found.

A+

Hello John, I too would love to help you in your beautiful impresa.Queste things have always fascinated me, both from the standpoint of historical research, both in terms of material, and at the research in the field in person. I have heard from a gentleman in Rimini / Riccione, in a disused factory in the basement there is a whole tow, where, however, have removed much of what you could take away. (Visors, optics, and more) There have never been in person, even in summer because the area was infested with snakes and you know ...., but he assured me that few people know of the existence of that wagon. In a month I should return to where they live and try to find my phone number at least once a gentleman so I can see if I can find out some more information. However, people who I think might help you in your search are those that are part of the area, but who sell items of WWII in antique markets. (This gentleman is one of them) See you soon

A presto [SM=g27811]

Ok Paolo here it is in English. But it's the same for the Italian to English as the English to Italian. Patience guys! I am happy repeat any knowledge 100 times in any language to catch a tank.

Hi Vinz82 , Yet another great story. The optics which where valuable for re-sale adds some realism to the story. The optics on the Panther where more advanced than a tiger. And we know that Pantherturm bunkers where at the airfield of Rimini / Riccione. But there is an account from the 48 th Highlanders - of a Tiger already dead, with concrete poured on to it - like a bunker in an old wine bottling factory . This was north of Rimini: in the Orsoleto / Viserba area. Probably destroyed by Canadian or New Zealanders a few days before. We also know that wine barrels are stored in a basement for cool temperatures. So again a good clue. But snakes are not my specialty! I'll be in the region, probably in July, once again, like last year, if you want you can have coffee or lunch together and exchange information. My first post in the forum mentions my email.

Ciao Tiger 1.

Ok thanks for the link, appreciated. I think Zimmerit covered something similar in this link:

freeforumzone.leonardo.it/lofi/Panther-a-Montecolombo-rn-/D9214...

The scrapping of the Panther between the two buildings is sadly well documented.

My plans are hopefully for a more complete vehicle - buried much like the SMV found in the centre of Rimini. But yes it is a risk that the things are already fragmented. Seems that Tigers where a little more used in Italy than Panthers, and I am hoping that few extra tons in weight will make all the difference.

Gravity is our best friend.

Ciao Tiger 1.

freeforumzone.leonardo.it/lofi/Panther-a-Montecolombo-rn-/D9214...
